Agency
Time was running out.
I decided to go to a dating agency because I'd had a letter from the school saying
that they weren't going to hold my job open forever and could I hurry up and get a bird please.
The Happily Ever After Agency invited me in for a one to one chat. When I got there, a kindly old lady with a funny eye sat me down at her desk and
went through a form with me.
She asked loads of questions about myself: how tall I am and so on, and then she asked me what my ideal partner would be like.
"A bit like my ex-wife," I said, "only doesn't put it about as much."
"I see," she said, "and let's say you meet your ideal partner, what would be your ideal day out?"
"Well," I said, "we'd go to the park and have a nice picnic by the lake. Then, perhaps, we'd visit an art gallery - I think paintings are rubbish,
personally, but my ex-wife used to like that sort of stuff. After that we'd take
a stroll by the river and chat about things, and then we'd go to my ex-wife's house and stand outside and I'd point at my new love and say: 'See? I've
got someone new now, and she's better than you ever were. Yeah, who's laughing now, Susan? Eh?
Who's laughing now?'"
I must admit, I got quite animated towards the end.
After a long pause, the woman said: "Hmmm..."
After that, she said she'd let me know if she finds anyone suitable.
