Games
Mr Barrington was off sick, so it was left to me to organise the games lesson.
Once all the boys had changed into their kit and were assembled, I asked them what games they normally played when they were with Mr. Barrington.
"Murderball," one of them said, I thought rather ominously.
I asked him what the rules were and he explained that they split off into two equal teams and then the point of the game is that each team tries to get the ball.
"... by any means necessary," he added.
I chose two boys to pick teams, but one of them said: " Mr. Barrington always captains the other team."
"Oh right," I said, "if you're sure that's OK."
We picked our sides, one by one. The ones I chose didn't seem very happy to be on my side, saying things like: "for fuck's sake!" and "wanker!"
When the game got started it was very intense. There were kicks and punches flying everywhere -most of them directed at me. Pretty soon, I realised that the ones on my side were kicking and punching me as well. And that they all carried on doing this even after I lost the ball.
They didn't even stop when I blew my whistle.
