Shallowness

I went to a meeting of an organization called the Campaign for Universal Non-conformity Tolerance in Society. I'd seen an advertisement in the local newspaper and it looked quite interesting.
Their stated aim was to remove the inherent shallowness from society. They said every person should be valued as an individual human being in their own right and not according to how they look, dress, how much money they earn, or how engaging their personality is or anything like that.
After a long debate about whether they should change their name to get rid of the unfortunate acronym (the upshot of which was that they shouldn't change because that would mean pandering to the whims of a fickle and venal society), a very beautiful young woman stood up and gave a talk on how we should all take the time to get to know other people - that no-matter what our first impressions, we should always strive to understand and achieve a meaningful connection with everybody we come into contact with; and that if we can do this, we would make the world a much more caring and peaceful place to live in.
I was very moved by her speech, and also by the way her tight sweater hugged the curves of her chest.
When she finished, there was enthusiastic applause from the rest of the group.
I stood up and said: "That was a marvelous speech, I really did think it was quite brilliant."
She smiled a bit uncertainly and said: "thanks."
There was silence from the others. They all just looked at me.
Then somebody muttered: "Christ! Maybe we should rethink all this..."
